Meet Luca, a sweet stray dog who lived on the outskirts of a town. Like any street dog, Luca made the most of his situation by scavenging food to get by.
Sadly, hunger, dehydration, and the elements are the least of a stray’s worries. One of the biggest threats they could face is malicious humans who go out of their way to hurt innocent creatures.
One unfortunate day, Luca faced one of the worst of humanity, and his life has never been the same since.

The Attack That Changed Luca’s Life
It was Luca’s painful cries that led the rescuers from Howl Of A Dog to where the hapless hound was. They answered the distress call as fast as they could, but it was too late to stop any of the attacks.
They found the poor pooch with so many cuts and bruises all over his body. He was badly hit and beaten—tied to a car and dragged all over. The pain was so immense, that all Luca could do was cower.

The rescuers brought Luca to the vet as fast as they could. He was immediately prescribed medicine to help with the pain, and his wounds were quickly treated to stop any infection.
Unfortunately, it was too late to save Luca’s tail. The attacks caused severe, irreversible damage to the bone and nerves, and it became paralyzed.
There are no words to express the anguish one would feel in this situation. To do such vile things to an innocent creature is enough for one to lose faith in humanity. However, as shown by the selfless acts done by Luca’s rescuers, goodness will always prevail.
And more goodness was headed Luca’s way.

The Kindness Of Humans
Despite the evilness done to Luca, many people showed that there is still good left in the world. His rescuers stayed by Luca’s side and helped him heal. After only a month, Luca was already bouncing back!

His story was also shared online and touched the hearts of many. The amazing opera singer and founder of Animal Care Austria, Miss Carol Byers, was one of the hearts that Luca touched.
Byers was so moved by Luca’s story, that she contacted Howl Of A Dog to have Luca travel from Romania to Austria. After staying five months with his rescuers, Luca traveled to Austria, where he received care from a professional dog trainer and continued his rehabilitation.

There, he was adopted and found a fur-ever home that continued to love and protect him.
Luca’s story is a stark reminder that, while it’s hard to have faith in humanity sometimes, there will always be selfless helpers who will restore your faith in the true goodness of people. More importantly, Luca is an inspiration: he survived and rose again, stronger than ever.
